These are the steps you take to show your profile picture on this site:
1. First, obviously, you need to come up with an image of yourself. Make the image small and the file size under 60k. My profile picture is 59 pixels wide by 80 pixels high and just over 3k in file size. It can be a bit larger and the system will re-size it, but in order to keep file size small and assure your image doesn't get distorted by the site, it's best to start with the proper dimensions to begin with.
2. Because of limited hard drive space, your profile image cannot live on the server I use. (disclaimer: mine does, but I'm in good with the owner of the place) Instead, it will need to be uploaded to another server somewhere, and then linked here (I will explain further below). To do that, there are many free services that you can use to upload and store your profile image. Photobucket is one of them. Go here:
http://www.photobucket.com and follow directions...it's not hard.
3. When you have created your account at a service such as Photobucket, etc. and have successfully uploaded your image on to it, find the image on that site, as it diplays it.
4. At this point, you will need to get the address of this image by right-clicking on your image. A small box comes up, showing several options. Depending on which browser you are using, this step varies only slightly in the labeling. Note: I don't have a Mac and not sure of the actual procedure there, but you Mac folks probably know what to do already.
5. In Internet Explorer or Firefox, choose 'properties' after right-clicking on the image. Some info comes up. You are interested in 'address' (in Internet Explorer) or 'location' (in Firefox). My version of IE is an old one (version 6) and not too sure if the wording is still the same with newer versions. It should be close to that, anyway.
